Attempted Escape!

Known in France as the "Fuite À Varennes", on June 20th, the immediate Royal Family attempted to flee the war in Paris, to the French Countryside where King Louis XVI believed he was more popular.

The plan was to disguise the royal family as a Russian Aristocrat and his associates. The royal children would dress as girls, the accompanying Governess as the Russian Aristocrat, the Queen as the Governess herself, and the King as their valet.

During the trip, a local Postmaster recognised Marie Antoinette and (to be sure) compared the "Valet's" face to the King's face on a currency note, it being a perfect match.

The royals were imprisoned and sentenced to execution by guillotine for high treason.
