King Louis XVI
At the end of 1792, King Louis XVI was accused of crimes on the subject on betrayal, leadership failures, crimes against the state, sabotage, treason and conspiracy with foreign forces, each true to a certain extent. This included when the Austrians attempted to aid the King (without Louis' knowledge) with military force. In court, an overwhelming majority of 693 voted the for the King's guilt of 33 charges extending from the list above. What to condemn him with was another long few months altogether! After weeks of deliberation, Louis XVI was sentenced to the guillotine by a narrow majority.
On January 21, 1793, King Louis XVI would face the guillotine.
Marie Antoinette
That same year, Louis' wife, Marie Antoinette was castigated for "high treason" and "sexual crimes", none of which anyone could manifest. These unscrupulous erotic proposals included, supposed relationships with others during her marriage with the King and incest with her own son! Obviously, Marie Antoinette had little care for her subjects, but these fabricated charges were far from the truth, and probably far from what she deserved.
9 months after her husband met his grisly end at the guillotine, she did too.
